WEEE recycling

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations in the UK requires that all retailers of electrical goods assist in delivering a UK-wide collection and recycling system to encourage consumers to recycle old or unwanted electronic equipment.

There are several ways this can be done. You can either take the item to your local council recycling site, contact them to arrange a home collection of larger items (there may be a small charge for this service) or bring the item to one of our stores where we would be happy to help!

Electronics are one of the fastest growing waste streams and most of it can be recycled with parts reused to make new products. All electrical items sold now carry the 'crossed out wheeled bin' symbol as they should not be placed into the normal household waste.

Under the Waste Battery Regulations, we offer a take back scheme for all portable waste batteries and you can return these at any of our stores or service departments. Alternatively, you can find your local waste portable battery recycling facility atwww.recyclenow.com. Most supermarkets and shops that sell batteries will have collection bins for used batteries as well as some town halls, libraries or schools which you may find easier.

Look out for these symbols!

If the symbol shown here is found on any of your goods, it means that the product is classed as Electrical or Electronic Equipment and is covered by the WEEE Regulations.

Why recycle?

Unwanted electrical equipment is the UK's fastest growing type of waste.

Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle, electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and also human health.

To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with a crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with the crossed out wheeled bin symbol) in your bin.

How are we helping?

When we deliver a new appliance, our home delivery team can take away your old appliance and ensure it is properly recycled. If Disposal Of Your Old Product is available, it will be shown on the product page.

Alternatively, you can return or send your old electrical appliance to PRC Direct, Bentalls, Basildon, Essex SS14 3BY; please note, you must pay for any costs incurred in returning your old appliance to us.

If you have purchased from our store, we also offer free in-store take back of your old electrical items (note: there will be a charge applicable for recycling of refrigeration goods. Please enquire on costings prior to purchase) on a like-for-like basis. We can only accept items that fulfil the same function as the new item being purchased. You must return your old item to our store within a reasonable period of time following your new purchase.

We will make sure your old appliance is disposed of in an environmentally friendly way and in accordance with our obligations under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006.
